Mineral Makeup Tips from gloMinerals: Sultry Eyes and Glowing Skin

September 8th, 2010 · No Comments

As someone who has enjoyed her laidback Mommyhood so much it’s squeezing out of my ears, I am happily embracing makeup, nail polishes (big threes avoided: no phthalates, toluene, and formaldehyde, Zoya fitting the bill perfectly…) In fact, I make a conscious effort to apply some foundation and eye makeup every morning (didn’t know it [...]

An Ode to Zoya Nail Polishes

November 27th, 2009 · 3 Comments

It perhaps takes two years after giving birth for a new mom to start feeling like a woman again. At least that’s how long it took me. On Marie’s second birthday I gave myself a mani/pedi; a week later, I’ve got Victoria Beckham’s short bob and super-dark brown Aveda hair color that I have been [...]

Lead in Lipsticks: FDA Study Found even Higher Levels of Toxic Metal

September 11th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Popular lipsticks contain massive levels of lead, found the new study by FDA - and these levels are even higher than those reported in 2007 by the consumer advocacy group Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
This new analysis, conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, used a technology called “inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry” to assess lead [...]

I’ve been watching the case development with great interest. First of all because I am a huge fan of Stella [...]

Color Maintenance Mask for Dark Hair

May 15th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Used once a week, this mask is good for brightening up the color, and used three times a week it can darken the brassy, chestnut tones if you are into true brunette shades. This mask cannot work miracles, though, and it won’t change your hair color dramatically. It’s going to only maintain and maybe deepen the color you already have.

A New Look at Red, Black, Purple Nails…

April 29th, 2009 · 5 Comments

Spring is in full bloom, and after three years of nail polish ban (first, getting ready to pregnancy, then being pregnant, then breastfeeding, then downright too busy) I got carried away and gave myself a lovely red pedicure. My red nail polish was phthalate-free, toluene-free, formaldehyde-free very pretty shade of true red by Zoya, a [...]

Bentonite and Other Clays: Aluminum-Free Alternatives

April 3rd, 2009 · 4 Comments

In my book, The Green Beauty Guide, I talk quite a lot about clays. I must admit, I am a bit reprehensive when it comes to aluminum-containing clays such as bentonite but then again, these clays are so ubiquitous, it’s nearly impossible to find a decent mask or scrub without them.
And finding an alternative [...]

Oil for Acne: a Friend or an Enemy?

March 14th, 2009 · 3 Comments

A few days ago a customer complained that SKINSAVER Original Cream contains plant oils which she believes is bad for acne. She admitted she’s a fan of “not-so-green” (can I assume conventional, chemical?) acne products and advised that we made SKINSAVER oil-free, that is, made with synthetic emollients and silicones.
Sorry. Not going to happen. [...]
