In summer time, it’s best to leave our nails go au naturel, without any nail polish so that they would benefit from air and moderate sun exposure. The best way to keep our nails groomed and healthy is cuticle oil.
Cuticles stretch with the natural growth of your nails. If your skin or cuticle does not [...]

How to Cleanse your Skin with Milk
June 19th, 2010 · 1 Comment
Organic full-fat milk is the ultimate gentle facial cleanser. Just pour some milk on a cotton wool ball and wipe off the eye makeup and refresh the skin. There is no need to wash the milk off. Top it off with your regular moisturizer or leave it as it is and enjoy a mild exfoliation [...]

Face Cleansing: Detergent or Non Detergent?
February 3rd, 2010 · No Comments
In winter time, our skin requires gentle cleansing, and that’s when plant-based, low foaming cleansers come handy.
All cleansing products, whether they are meant for use on the face, body, or hair, are based on one of three types of cleansing agents: detergents, plant soaps, and saponins.
Detergents are the most ubiquitous type [...]

Acne Serum Recipe: Tested on Myself, Works Great
September 5th, 2009 · 2 Comments
My pre-pregnancy nightmare is coming back. It’s not a really full-blown acne, but it’s bad enough to peek from underneath the mineral makeup and it’s inflamed enough to make me reach for the old time-tested acne fighters: the Skinsaver Wash (I was too proud to reach for the Petite Marie Organics products, so I made [...]

What Not to Do If You Have Acne
September 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment
As I was idly browsing through my first book, Clear Skin: Organic Action Plan for Acne, I couldn’t help but notice quite a few chapters I’d rather rewrite today. The organic cosmetic science has moved forward so briskly, it simply doesn’t make sense to stick to old knowledge. Well. We’ll see, maybe I will get back to my first kiddie again.

August 27th, 2008 · 3 Comments
If there is something that could make me hit the keyboard and start writing a post before I had my morning latte is another set of misconceptions spread by members of traditional science.
As I was idly browsing BabyCenter.com waiting for my emails to download, I found this question: “Are safe-tanners safe during pregnancy?”
Here’s a cheery [...]

Can Your Sunscreen Give you Skin Cancer?
August 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment
Is your sunscreen setting you up for cancer? Quite possibly. For how else can you explain the meteoric rise of skin cancers in countries where sunscreens are heavily propagated, and everyone slathers cupfuls of sunscreens each time they see a ray of sunlight?
A study by the Environmental Working Group found that one in every eight [...]

Green Charcoal Mask for Acne
August 7th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I am fascinated by activated charcoal. Why isn’t anyone using it as frequently as clays? It is so much more porous and non-reactive. Just 1 gram of activated carbon, or activated charcoal, has absorbing surface of 500 square metres - for comparison, a tennis court is about 260 m² (thanks, Wikipedia!). In olden times, activated charcoal was frequently used for all sorts of intoxications and bowel disorders, and many people swear it’s an ultimate hangover remedy. It’s dirt cheap, and it’s widely available. And best of all, it has no traces of aluminum, my cosmetic foe du jour.

My Strategy of Sensible Tanning
July 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment
It’s impossible – and actually harmful - to avoid the sun completely. A light tan is more than enough to maintain healthy levels of vital vitamin D, but sun protection today is more important than ever. Sunburns are directly linked to a higher risk of developing the most disastrous skin cancer, melanoma, and it’s much [...]
